Flying With a Toddler Essential: Itzy Ritzy Box
Babies and toddlers change so frequently–what they like and dislike can change month-to-month, and even week-to-week. I had flown with my now 20-month-old twice before, and was about to fly again with her for the first time in 4 months. With my daughter being very active, curious, and never wanting to sit still, I was beyond nervous on how she would do on a plane. I stuffed my diaper bag with any possible form of entertainment I could think of: iPad, DVD player, tons of snacks, coloring books, and an Itzy Ritzy bento box filled with toys.
I thought a screen would most likely be my answer to keeping my daughter sitting still, quiet, and happy. However, I was pleasantly surprised that she took to one of the few non-screen options in my bag of tricks: an Itzy Ritzy bento box.
Itzy Ritzy boxes are made with many compartments for snacks, and a handy thin drawer for an ice pack (which comes with the box). The ice pack drawer is perfect so you don’t have to carry around a bulky ice pack in addition to your baby’s snack box. Everything you need for cold snacking fits in one box!
Since I was going to have a long day of travelling, I packed dried fruit and other packaged snacks. But my daughter loves anything that looks remotely like a purse and is brightly colored, so I had the idea of using the Itzy Ritzy bento box compartments for small toys for my daughter.
She loves opening and closing all the drawers and lids on the box, that alone entertained her for several minutes. The compartments are deep, so I was able to fit a lot into this one small box!
In the first section, I put 4 sheets of puffy stickers and a mini coloring book. In the drawer meant for the ice pack, I packed lots of crayons. This drawer was the perfect size for them! When my daughter was playing with the stickers, she used the box to place the stickers on. (I recommend puffy stickers for this, since they are more easily removable)
On the bottom compartment, I placed some small stuffed animals and figurines. Along with one of my favorite airplane go-to’s with a toddler, window clings! The window clings are great to place on the airplane window or the airplane tray.
Normally when I pack lots of toys, etc. for my daughter for a plane trip I’m digging through my diaper bag to find items to entertain her. It was nice to just pull out the Itzy Ritzy box, leave my bag in the overhead compartment, and know I had everything I needed in a storage-efficient box!
The Itzy Ritzy box will definitely continue to be a flying with a toddler essential for many plane trips to come! What are some flying with a toddler essentials you like to bring with you on a plane?
