The Grey Stuff
Whether you were a child or adult when first seeing Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, without a doubt the “Be Our Guest” scene was dazzling and magical. The animation was incredible, the music catchy…it was basically a show-stopping Broadway-style musical number, but capable of the limitless imaginative visuals animation provides.
Any Disney buff will recall the famous words sung by Lumiere, “Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious! Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes!”
But what is the grey stuff?
My husband and I had always speculated that it was pâté. If you’ve paid a visit to the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort, you’re probably familiar with the Be Our Guest Restaurant, with numerous rooms modeled after various iconic scenes from Beauty and the Beast. Served at the restaurant? A must-have Disney treat fans will understand the name of, “The Grey Stuff”. At the restaurant, it is a cookies-and-cream mousse! Delicious right? But for those times we can’t be at the park or want a clean eating, healthier replica to have more often at home, I’ve got you covered.
I did a lots of testing, and came up with a recipe for a clean eating version of the Grey stuff.
In my own Facebook-based clean eating/fitness group, I made this recipe as a part of our meal plan, and it was very well received! With it being taste-tested and fan approved, I am super excited to share my original recipe here on my blog.
Something to note, since this is a clean eating replica, it has some differences. It still has the whipped texture and a cookies-and-cream taste. However, rather than being purely sweet, it has more of a frozen yogurt tart flavor to it–which makes this recipe delicious whether you have it straight away or frozen, as a snack or dessert!
The Grey Stuff Step-By-Step Guide
For my tasty clean-eating “The Grey Stuff” copycat recipe, follow the simple steps below for a 2-person serving:
You’ll need to gather your ingredients:
-2 1/4 cups of Greek Yogurt (I personally like Chobani)
-2 1/2 Tbsp of whipped Greek yogurt cream cheese (this is a newer item in grocery stores, so you may not be able to find it, but if not you can use low fat or non fat whipped cream cheese)
-2 1/2 Tbsp Cocoa powder
-1 1/2 Tbsp Maple syrup
The preparation is super simple, just put all the ingredients in a blender, or a Kitchen Aid mixer. I used my Ninja blender.
Next, blend very well until very smooth and creamy. If you don’t have a blender you can whisk very well using rapid speed.
Voila! Your clean eating, copycat “The Grey Stuff” recipe is complete! As mentioned before, you can serve right away, or store covered in the fridge. If you want it to taste like frozen yogurt you can put in the freezer as well. I hope you enjoy this more tart and healthy taste of the Grey Stuff–it’s super easy to make, and addicting to eat!
