Coming to Disneyland Before 2017
Disney Social Media Mom’s On-the-Road at Disneyland Recap
Recently, I had the honor of attending the Disney Social Media Moms On-the-Road event that took place at the Disneyland Resort. It was an amazing event where Disney mom bloggers got together at the Paradise Pier Hotel and we were shown the amazing things that are in store in the coming months at the resort in Anaheim, CA. In addition to that, we had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear from Amy Smeed, who is the first woman to hold the title of co head-animator at Disney! She is the co head-animator of Walt Disney Animation Studio’s “Moana.” We saw behind-the-scenes footage of the directors’ research trips to various Polynesian islands, the casting process, and scenes from the film (spoiler alert: It all looks beautiful and amazing). We also had the pleasure of hearing from Erin Glover (head of the Disney Parks Blog), and people who are experts on being social media moms, such as actress Tiffani Thiessen and meteorologist Ginger Zee.
After getting behind-the-scenes scoops, inspiring talks on how to balance motherhood and social media, and practical blogging tips, we experienced the ultimate treat: Getting to bring our family to enjoy the parks! It was the first time my mother and sister had been in years, and the first time ever they were able to go to Disneyland with my daughter. It was a fantastic day of making new friendships, creating new family memories, and gaining new insight and tools to enhance my experience as a blogger mom. To show my enthusiasm of attending a Disney mom event, I even planned out a Disneybound as Disney mom Perdita from 101 Dalmations:
The day was phenomenal, and the Disney Social Media Moms presentation got me especially revved up for what’s in store for my hometown Disney Resort. For the last year and a half, Disney fans have flocked to the Disneyland Resort to celebrate it’s Diamond Anniversary. Not only because it is a HUGE milestone for the theme park, but because of amazing 60th anniversary offerings such as the Paint the Night Parade, an amazing fireworks show, and beautiful Diamond anniversary decor. The Diamond anniversary is now coming to a close, but I am still getting so stoked for all that’s in store at Disneyland Resort that we learned about at the Disney Social Media Moms On-the-Road event.
Coming to Disneyland Resort Before 2017
This is a coming series of events exclusive for Annual Passholders at Disney California Adventure. There were AP Days earlier this year, themed to Adventureland, Fantasyland, Main Street, and Tomorrowland. During the event, one of the Hollywood backlot stages are set aside especially for APs to have snacks, have a meet-and-greet opportunity with characters not usually seen around the parks, and special buttons. It is lots of fun to get a picture with rare characters, and very nice to have an air-conditioned, not-too-crowded place to rest your feet! AP Days will be happening just around the corner, from September 6th through October 2nd.
Main Street Electrical Parade
I absolutely LOVE the electrical parade. Although the soundtrack that goes along with it is pretty long, I still have it on my Disney Spotify playlist since it brings back such fond childhood memories. It’s been about 7 years since the Main Street Electrical Parade was last seen at Disney California Adventure, and now that I have my own child I can’t wait to experience this classic parade with her. An exact date range hasn’t been announced for the parade yet, but as of August 2016 we know it will be leaving Walt Disney World Oct. 9th and come to Disneyland temporarily sometime after that. The Electrical Parade hasn’t officially been confirmed to be at Disneyland Resort during 2016, but it is being speculated it might be here for Holiday time.
Halloween Time at the Disneyland resort is an annual occurrence, and is one of my favorite times of year at the parks. With the giant Mickey pumpkin head on Main Street, so many yummy treats, and the lit-up pumpkin tree at night, it’s the interpretation of autumn that is the pinnacle of Disney lovers’ dreams. With the Diamond celebration coming to a close, this Halloween time might bring fewer crowds than last year, so I am quite excited to partake in more fall-time visits. Not to mention, there’s always a need to visit each year at Halloween time to see what the new gingerbread house will be on Haunted Mansion Holiday, and new pumpkin art! Also, just announced this week is the brand new Frightfully Fun parade that will happen during Mickey’s Halloween Party. The parade will feature Jack the Pumpkin King, the Headless Horseman, and the grim grinning ghosts coming out to socialize!
This like Halloween Time is an annual occurrence. However, if you have never been to Disneyland during the holiday season, or if you are planning a trip and aren’t sure of when the best time is, THIS IS IT! There is nothing more magical than Disneyland, holiday decor, and the jovial spirit people have around the holidays all rolled into one! Each year there are new foods to experience, incredible live performances around every corner (i.e. the Bell Ringers), and the tree is always a little different every year. And just like Halloween time, I suspect this season to be a little less crowded than last year, since it also isn’t overlapping with the Diamond Anniversary Celebration.
UPDATED NEWS AS OF 9/13:
The Disney Parks blog announced that Holiday time at Disneyland Resort this year will take place November 10th-January 8th. There will be a new World of Color show, entitled “World of Color–Season of Light.” There will also be a new Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure, near Paradise Garden Grill. There will be festive music, with a meet and greet with Elena of Avalor.
The regular holiday fireworks and parade will be returning, as well as Santa Claus (who will be at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail this year).
New Face Characters
To many fans’ surprise, Pocahontas has frequently been seen in Frontierland on the weekends! This is a character that hasn’t been around for meet-and-greets in quite sometime, and I think her costume is incredible. And although this hasn’t been confirmed, I’m almost positive there will be a Moana face character at the parks! There always are characters promoting the latest films, and I can’t wait to see what a Moana face character will look like brought to life from the animated film. My guess is that she might be doing meet and greets near Aladdin’s Oasis, since it’s near the Tiki Room, the perfect Polynesian setting. A face character that was brand new the day I attended the parks for Disney Social Media Moms On-the-Road was Gaston! Gaston has long been at the Magic Kingom at Walt Disney World, but is a fun, brand new addition to Disneyland. He is so funny and cocky, the perfect Gaston, and guests can’t get enough of him! With my Facebook and Instagram feed being jam-packed with Disney fans, I saw many, many people going just to see him. I even have a good friend with an Etsy shop who dressed her daughters up as Mrs. Potts and Chip (in outfits she made herself) for the occasion.
There are of course many other exciting things planned further into the future, such as a new parking garage in 2018, a new luxury hotel with rooftop bar, and of course Star Wars Land! But with those being a few years into the future, I wanted to share with you all what I’m excited for that’s coming just by the end of 2016 after the 60th anniversary celebration ends!
Disneyland Resort, and all the other Disney Parks too, are always evolving, and never complete (per Walt Disney’s wish). With something new, exciting, and magical always coming to Disneyland Resort, I continuously have countless reasons to fall in love with Disneyland all over again….and again, and again!
