Toddler Science Activity: Make it Pink! Make it Blue!
January 29th celebrates the anniversary of the release of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (one of my all time favorite Disney princess movies), which opened this day in 1959. I decided for Sleeping Beauty day, I would do something a little different than a recipe (like I recently did for 101 Dalmatians) – I would do a science activity with my toddler! What better way to celebrate one of the most beloved Disney princesses than doing a fun experiment with my little girl?
The activity is a simple, easy-to-make, budget-friendly Make it Pink Make It Blue science experiment! You will need:
- A disposable cake pan, or one you don’t mind getting some dye in.
- A box of baking soda
- A box of blue Jell-O
- A box of pink Jell-O
- Distilled White Vinegar
- A baster or plastic condiment bottle
For this activity, you:
- Fill the bottom of a pan completely with baking soda.
- In a cup or a condiment bottle, mix 1/2 cup white vinegar with just a couple Tbsp of each of your Jell-O powders.
- Using a baster or your condiment bottle, squirt your two different colors into your pan of baking soda, and watch their fizzy, colorful reactions! You can watch the colors mix together, and keep playing for as long as you want.
I got the inspiration for this activity from a Magic Steps Music Together class I took. Magic Steps Music Together is in Orange County, and have lots of different classes for young children (music, dance, art, etc.). If you’re in the area these classes are a must to check out!
This makes for a great science activity for young children, my two-year old daughter loved it. It’s a great activity to do while watching Sleeping Beauty, too! I would also recommend it for a party activity if you are ever throwing a Sleeping Beauty-themed party.
