I feel like it can be pretty tough to get into a new TV show. Often times, it takes me at least four episodes to a season to be hooked on something! Recently, I began watching the new FX show called “Better Things“, and to my pleasant surprise I was hooked instantly. The show tells the story of single mom of three girls, Sam (Pamela Adlon), who is maintaining a career as an actress in Los Angeles, dealing with three different life stages of her daughters’, and her overly chatty British mother who is also her neighbor.
It’s hard not to be enthralled with “Better Things”; it is so unique and refreshing in its raw, real portrayal on modern day motherhood. It encompasses everything modern moms deal with today: Trying to deal with competition and climbing to the top within your career while still trying to be optimistic for your kids, raising children in a metropolitan area, and something any parent can relate to: utter exhaustion!
Sometimes, a show with a very real depiction of parenthood can seem to hit too close to home, and not be the right fit to watch when you’re unwinding in the evening. However, “Better Things” found the perfect balance between relatability, and humor. The humor is funny enough to help you unwind and relax, but crude enough to capture the emotions of being a career-centered mom.
This is one of the best new comedies on television in quite sometime, and with comical forces Louis C.K. and Pamela Aldon as its creators, it comes as no surprise that it is perfection.
You can catch “Better Things” on Thursday evenings at 10pm ET/PT on FX.
