I still remember my first gift I asked Santa for when I was five years old: A Samantha American Girl doll. This was way back when there were only three American Girl dolls to choose from! My sister would read me the Samantha books, and I loved her stories. It was my ultimate dream gift. And on Christmas day, I received from Santa my Samantha doll! I had never owned a doll as beautiful, and everything about her outfit, her curly hair, and her accessories was beautiful. Playing American Girl dolls with my sister, and reading the books are some of my fondest memories of my childhood. And I still remember that wonderful gift from Santa (though I have a feeling my mom helped quite a bit 😉 …) even to this day.
When I think of Christmas, I still think of the burgandy gingham dress my Samantha arrived in! Now that I have a daughter of my own, I wanted to create the same magical experience for her, and introduce her to American Girl. American Girl helped make my dreams come true, and helped me present my daughter with a Bitty Baby doll, that has blonde hair and blue eyes — just like her! She had been showing interest in baby dolls lately at toy stores, and hoped to give her one of her very own.
Since I wanted my daughter to be able to enjoy the magic of her Bitty Baby all holiday season long, I presented it to her a little early. I made her gorgeous Bitty Baby doll her first gift from Santa, just like my Samantha doll was mine. When she first saw her doll by her little Christmas tree, her face lit up!
I quickly took the doll out of the box, and we got her dressed in her special holiday outfit!
My daughter couldn’t stop giving her hugs and kisses, and her face was beaming! I even took out my Samantha doll, now over twenty years old, and still in perfect condition, so that we could play with our dolls together. It was the ultimate, full circle mother-daughter experience, and I couldn’t be more excited to start instilling the values American Girls help teach through reading and play.
My daughter is continuing to take good care of her baby, putting her down for naps, hugging her, and giving her lots of love! I know that her Bitty Baby, just like my doll, will be one that she keeps and takes care of, to pass down to her children!
