Interview With Storm Reid and Derec McCabe
For the Blu-Ray and digital release of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, I was able to go to Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA to interview two of the film’s stars – Storm Reid (Meg Murray) and Deric McCabe (Charles Wallace). In the film, Reid and McCabe play siblings, and in person they seem just as close as though they were brother and sister in real life! This was both of their first major film to work on, and while that could have been an overwhelming job to take on, both young actors had an amazing experience working on A Wrinkle in Time. They both felt that the Winfrey, Witherspoon, and Kahling were incredibly kind and fun to be with on set. Their director Ava DuVernay was also fantastic to work with, working wonderfully with Reid and McCabe to help discover their characters.
It was fascinating to learn about their perspective during the filmmaking process of such an epic movie! The interview ended with some sweet words from McCabe: “She [Reid] is like my big sister whose there for me, and I’m her little brother who is going to protect her!”
An Interview With Catherine Hand
Catherine Hand, the producer of the film, was fascinating to interview since she was so incredibly passionate about this film. She was a friend of Madeleine L’Engle, and was personally trusted as a steward for the film adaptation. Ever since Hand was a child, she dreamt of one day being a part of film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, working on numerous different version of a film adaptation with screenwriters over the past couple decades. Hand talked about how she had hoped that Disney Studios would be the ones to create the film someday. Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, is exactly how Hand had hoped her dream movie would turn out – she couldn’t be more pleased! She even mentioned that L’Engle’s daughter consulted on some aspects of the film, and felt her mother would have loved Disney’s film adaptation.
